As usual, the wallet turns up within a day.
I spent the route home yesterday retracing my steps on my bike in case it had fallen out of my pocket on my ride to the post office. Given that I live in a nation of people who it appears this week would not think twice about smashing the windows of their local shop and walking in and looting the lot, I did not hold out much hope that anyone picking up the wallet would not immediately get on the internet and max out my Amex card on anything that took their fancy. Every passing hoodie was in my mind someone celebrating their good luck in picking up some (relatively) rich guy's treasure trove of credit.
Of course this is wrong. Whenever my wallet is concerned, people around the world seem compelled to prove that human nature is inherently to be honest.
So I got an e-mail this morning from the reception at work saying that it had been handed in. Of course this never happens in time for me not to have cancelled my cards.
Things I Have Lost
This is a blog about losing stuff. I do it all the time. On days when I lose stuff I'll write about that. On days when I don't I'll write about the things that I thought I had lost and wasted ages searching for before they turned up in the place that I had thought that they had been all along. On the rare days that I don't lose anything and still feel like writing then I can talk about the things that I lost in the past.

Lost my wallet again
So
Today I lost my wallet again. I've lost it many many times. Sometimes - surprisingly often - it turns up. Sometimes not.
I was in a rather stressed state at work. I needed to get a mortgage application in the post, reply to an urgent e-mail and be at a meeting discussing an important deal all at the same time.
I decided nip out of the meeting to sprint off on my bike to a post box before getting back to write the e-mail. Because I have lost my pass for the office (that was yesterday's loss, but its still lost today), I got rather flustered around getting in and out of work, and may have dropped my wallet at the entrance. Or maybe if fell out of my pocket while I was cycling. Or maybe I left it on my desk and someone nicked it.
Anyway, an hour or so later, while working on the e-mail matter, I realised that it was gone.
There followed some time asking the security guards whether it had turned up (twice), looking under the desk (three times), looking in my bag (four times). No sign of it. I'll post tomorrow if it turns up but have cancelled all my cards anyway.
